Ladies of the Zodiac

When it comes to these lovely ladies, there is not all that much of a story. I had been doing so much art for others I really just needed to start a project for me.

I had recently finished a line of Zodiac Cupcake Cards and felt that it might be fun to make a line of art for each sign of the zodiac. I started drawing these 'Art Nouveau', inspired ladies. They are meant to embody the great qualities of each sign. Over time they may even have some mermaid and fairy counterparts.

This was the first I drew, she is even a re-draw of the original piece. The original had a fiery gouache background. It really distracted from the lady, so it was redone.

Each lady starts as a pencil sketch. A large pencil sketch. I will even ink the sketch, this way I know exactly which lines I want to use for the final version.

I will take this sketch and tape it to my patio door and trace. Hey, when your lightbox is only an 8.5x11 inch screen what is a girl to do? While it is tape to the door I trace the lines with a fine line marker. After the line art is complete I start coloring.

The majority of my illustration markers are Winsor and Newton; however, I do also use a few Prismacolor and Artist Loft Sketch Markers.

I look forward to sharing all 12 Ladies with you as they are completed.

3 Steps to Fight Copyright Infringement

I asked recently ... "What do you want to see ... what I am coloring or what I am drawing?" A friend of mine said, "What are you coloring?"

My answer ... "I am coloring this, but I want to color this ... if I can find the artist first."

I am sure she thought I was crazy. Here is why I answered the way I did.
1. I want to support artists, not just color whatever I find on the Internet.  2. I wouldn't want someone to rip me off. 3. I dropped a piece of wisdom -- don't rip off artists! (Not that my friend does!)
So Zombie Girls there .. yeah, I love her. She is way more detailed than most things I color. I find her to be a challenge. I find her to be fun. I find her shared in way, way too many free coloring whatnots.
Pinterest and Google Searching are not the only culprits of hosting stolen art. There are plenty of "Free Coloring Book Sites" full of art that probably shouldn't be there. If you can't find the artist's name ther…
